Leading US scientist to move to China?

One of the world’s greatest living research scientists, retired Harvard University chemist and nanoscientist Professor Charles Lieber, is considering a move to China, according to the Hong Kong based South China Morning Post.

In 2011, Professor Lieber was named the leading chemist in the world for the decade 2000–2010 based on the impact of his scientific publications.

Lieber who was previously convicted by the US for not disclosing ties to a Chinese talent programme, has confirmed he is exploring work opportunities in China,

Lieber was arrested in the US in 2020 under the McCarthyite “China Initiative”, allegedly for failing to disclose links to Chinese research institutions, but in reality as part of a New Cold War agenda, victimising ethnic Chinese scientists and intimidating those in the US that favoured sensible cooperation with China.

Lieber is now keen to “start a research group that carries out world-leading research that benefits all people in the world”. Needless to say, he will be very welcome in China. China is laser-focused on using science and technology to build a better life for Chinese people – and to contribute to a brighter future for humanity.

It’s truly sad, indeed pathetic, that the US would rather try to “contain China” instead of cooperating with China for the benefit of humanity.
