China and Cambodia agree to advance Belt and Road infrastructure cooperation

Cambodia and China have agreed to continue promoting Belt & Road cooperation to build more physical infrastructure in Cambodia.

The remarks were made during a phone call between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and Chinese President Xi Jinping on 18 March, 2022.

In the phone talk, the two sides appreciated the past cooperation in Belt & Road construction and urged more projects such as highways, airports and special economic zones.

The two leaders also plan to expand cooperation in emerging fields such as finance and the digital economy, according to China’s state news agency Xinhua.

President Xi Jinping said that the two sides should engage in high-quality joint Belt and Road construction, speed up the construction of major projects such as highways, airports and special economic zones, and expand cooperation in emerging fields such as finance and digital economy.

Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen said that the rapid growth of Cambodia-China bilateral trade and smooth progress of major projects under the framework of jointly building the Belt and Road have demonstrated the achievements of their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the building of a Cambodia-China community with a shared future.
