China is combining offshore wind power with aquaculture — using the same marine infrastructure to produce both electricity and seafood.
Some offshore wind projects in China have explored placing aquaculture facilities around or beneath turbine foundations, where the structures can also provide habitat for marine life.
The concept is based on the artificial-reef effect observed around offshore structures: marine organisms can attach to the foundations, while fish gather around them.
Integrated wind-and-aquaculture projects are being developed in Chinese coastal waters to make greater use of the space surrounding offshore turbines.
The idea is simple: generate renewable electricity above the water while producing fish and other marine products below it.

Note: Specific figures such as the 24 tonnes of sea bass, 8 tonnes of abalone, and 40% additional revenue should be treated as project-specific rather than a general output for all offshore wind farms.
