Professor Jeffrey Sachs, who for two years chaired the Covid-19 commission established by the prestigious medical journal The Lancet, has said he is convinced that the deadly virus did not come out of nature. World-renowned economist and author Professor Jeffrey Sachs has said that he was "pretty convinced" Covid-19 did not come from nature but rather was an accidental release "out of US lab biotechnology." Professor Sach's view lends further support for the need for an independent international invesigation into US bio labs run by the US military in numerous nations surrounding China and Russia. [ See previous China Environment Net articles linked below]. He was speaking at a conference hosted by the think tank GATE Center, in Spain, on 15 June 2022. While introducing this “provocative statement,” Sachs suggested that he formed this view after being "in the loop" as he chaired the Covid-19 commission at The Lancet. “So it’s a blunder, in my view, of biotech, not an accident of a natural spillover,” he reiterated. Attached is a link to an extract of Professor Sachs speaking to the conference in Spain last month: The full Video link is here: https://youtube.com/watch/?v=7rRBuX4U0DU&t=0sProfessor Jeffrey Sachs on COVID-19:

IMO it is very important not to simply infer from Sachs’ proclamation that he is some kind of “whistleblower”….. On face value, pointing at US lab as source SEEMS pretty “dissident”… however… since he quickly goes ON to say ( in video of the talk) it was a “blunder” a “biotech accident” he is ALSO conceivably doing “damage control” to distract from the likelihood of deliberate “leak” ( so actual bioweapon). If Fort Detrick is the location of this “accident” …. was it also a ( “convenient”) “accident” that military personnel from Fort Detrick headed off soon after to WUHAN for Military Games…. IMO a deliberate release as a strategy to hit China economically would explain a LOT …..( so many dots joining far to long for this comment) It is SO unlikely that someone of his ilk just gets away with CASUALLY ( see video) making this sort of announcement AND it gets unfettered media traction… unless staged damage control (Go on … call me a “conspiracist” 😄 )
Lancang-Mekong cooperation plans in agriculture, water resources, digital economy, aerospace, education, and public health proposed. Read full article:China on Monday 4 July 2022 proposed six programs which will benefit the Lancang-Mekong countries aside from China, namely Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam, according to Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who chaired the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (LMC) in Bagan, Myanmar. The programs include cooperation plans in agriculture, water resources, digital economy, aerospace, education, and public health,
The meeting came after the US’ high-profile launch of the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF), seen by experts as an empty move that lacks sustainability and substance, which is in stark contrast to the pragmatic LMC cooperation mechanism that has borne fruitful results since its launch in 2016.

China takes concrete action to tackle global warming through cooperation. Small island states, which are particularly vulnerable to global warming, are among China’s major concerns. The past two months have seen China taking a series of concrete actions to enhance South-South climate cooperation, namely projects among developing nations. China has reached 43 agreements with 38 countries on South-South climate cooperation. Aside from allocating 1.2 billion yuan ($178 million) for such cooperation China has offered training programs to about 2,000 officials and technicians in climate-related posts from 120 countries. The defence ministers of two of the highest profile powers in the world — China and the US — attended the dialogue in person and had an intense war of words. ( China’s State Councilor and Defence Minister General Wei Fenghe, and Lloyd J Austin III, US Secretary of Defense). This Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) was defined by a lively back-and-forth exchange between the Chinese and US defence ministers — sparks flew as they traded blows in a rare display. Wei’s firm posture and tone on the Taiwan issue showed the “killer” air of a defence minister with a military background. The author, Goh Choon Kang, argues that "the China factor is here to stay."... "The fact is, the SLD cannot do without China, because it is a factor that no one in the Asia Pacific or even the world can exclude. Without China, the SLD would be like a stage play without the main character. China’s participation in Asia Pacific affairs is essential — this is a fact that all countries, including the US, have to accept. This applies to the SLD as well as other regional and international affairs. For years, China has attended the meeting. Zhao Xiaozhuo has also attended nine times since 2012 as part of the military expert delegation. Chinese State Councilor and Defence Minister Wei Fenghe attended in person for the second time, showing the seriousness with which China takes the session." A current example that the author discusses, is the increasing contention in the South Pacific island states following China's increased profile in the region. One outcome of this is that the Western powers have announced a new initiative to assist the Pacific island countries and presumably counter China’s influence in the region; the islands are clearly getting help on both sides. A far cry from the relatively ignored South Pacific in recent decades. Goh Choon Kang asks rhetorically, "Is this not all thanks to China? A Song dynasty poem says that an ordinary scene of a moon at the window can look different with the addition of plum blossoms; likewise, the South Pacific is different with China’s involvement". Goh concludes, "In fact, the whole world is very different from decades ago because of China. Hopefully, some politicians with foresight will emerge in the US, who will not insist on pushing the US and China into a Thucydides Trap. Of course, right now, this is still a pipe dream." (The Shangri-La Dialogue (SLD) is organised by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), a British think tank, held since 2002. In terms of regional security and geopolitics, it is seen as Asia's leading high-profile platform for security dialogue.) See full article at: https://china-environment-news.net/blog/2022/…

At the Glasgow climate meeting in November 2021, US President Biden was keen to promote the US “commitment” to the Paris Climate Agreement (which the US regime had only recently “rejoined”) aimed at preventing some of the worst effects of global warming. Much was made at the time of last year's G7 Summit in Britain by the Biden regime and its acolytes of the claim that the US would cut greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 to 50% below 2005 levels. At the time many commentators pointed out that there were serious doubts Biden's ambitious infrastructure plan (Build Back Better World, or B3W) needed to deliver emission cuts could work. Did the US possess the state capacity needed to deliver the promised cuts to greenhouse gas emissions, even it wanted to? As an economy, the US is dominated by oligarchs with contradictory vested interests. (see https://china-environment-news.net/blog/2021/…) As predicted, Biden's "commitment" to B3W faltered from lack of money and political support in US Congress and from US oligarchs. It got nowhere and was quietly forgotten by the media in the West. Now Biden has twisted the arms of the G7 to rehash the B3W into a yet another plan, the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII). Just last week the rich Western nations, at the UN Climate Conference in Germany, once again did everything they could to renege on their commitments to the developing world to deliver $300 billion a year by 20 ($500 billion by 2050) to fund developing countries to adapt to increased floods, droughts, heatwaves and other extreme weather directly caused by climate change. (See https://china-environment-news.net/blog/2022/…) These "new" commitments to PGII come at a time when the collective West is channeling hundreds of billions of dollars into Europe to prolong a war on Russia. As the linked CGTN article below points out: https://news.cgtn.com/news/2022-06-29/…More "BLAH, BLAH, BLAH" on climate commitments - Biden's old infrastructure plan in new G7 bottle
The PGII plan calls on G7 leaders to raise $600 billion over five years to fund the launch of infrastructure projects in developing countries. Washington has promised to raise $200 billion of this through grants, federal funds and private investment, while the EU has announced 300 billion euros ($315 billion).
The promised $600 billion from the world's rich economies and the entire EU bloc is a big chunk of money. But it still pales in comparison to what the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has achieved in terms of extending a helping hand to the developing world.

A giant onshore wind power project with a generation capacity of one million kilowatts was put into operation after being connected to the national power grid for electric power supply in the Xing'an League of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on Wednesday. Built by the China General Nuclear Power Group (CGN), the first 1 million-kilowatt project, which is a mountainous wind farm, is capable of generating more than three billion kWh on-grid electricity annually. It can save more than 920,000 tonnes of standard coal and reduce nearly 2.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year. The CGN says it has made many breakthroughs in the execution of the wind power project. "This project is China's first onshore wind power project with a voltage level of 500 kV connected to the power grid system. It is also the first new energy project that transmits electric power generated through an ultra-high voltage transmission system to the national power grid," said Li Yilun, deputy general manager of the CGN. PetroChina may withdraw from Australian and Canadian projects, according to Reuters. PetroChina may sell its stakes in natural gas projects in Australia and oil sands in Canada, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing its sources. The Chinese company reportedly wants to cut its losses rom underperforming Western assets and divert funds to sites in the Middle East, Africa, and central Asia. This follows a similar strategic shift by another Chinese energy major, China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) which was preparing to exit its operations in Britain, Canada, and the US due to concerns that the assets could become subject to Western sanctions. “Australian gas assets – both Arrow Energy and Browse – are considered among the top ‘negative assets’ in PetroChina’s global portfolio,” one of the sources said. PetroChina purchased Arrow Energy in 2010 for $2.5 billion via a joint-venture with Shell, in its first investment in Australia’s coal seam gas sector. Three years later, the Chinese firm bought BHP’s stake in Browse, Australia’s largest untapped gas resource, for $1.63 billion. The company is also looking to offload the wholly-owned MacKay River Oilsands and Dover Oilsands projects in Canada because of losses in producing and processing the tar-like fuel into bitumen, the sources said. After US president Joe Biden and leaders from other Group of Seven (G7) nations proposed to raise $600 billion in the next five years to finance infrastructure projects in developing countries, a move generally interpreted by observers as intending to counter China's Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), economists expressed skepticism over the feasibility of such a program, citing reasons such as the US' strained government debt status, poor infrastructure construction abilities and past failure with a similar project. They also criticized the G7 proposal for having an "insincere" intention, as it was raised more from the perspective of launching a political competition with China, instead of really caring about the infrastructure situations in lower income countries. In this sense, it is unlikely to yield any project that could compare with China's flagship BRI projects, which focus on mutual connectivity, win-win, not decoupling and exclusionism. If countering China is the objective then the G7 grouping is sure to fail. How can business model be based on non economic conditions? G7 is very anti Chinese and the unrealistic geopolitical goal is not acceptable to the majority of nations worldwide. Commerce connects the world but geopolitical goal divides, sabotages and targets the Chinese people only.

BRICS countries will strengthen cooperation in a wide range of fields, including energy, the green economy, and the digital economy, according to the BRICS Summit Beijing Declaration released on Thursday 23 June 2022, which reaffirmed the commitment to tackling climate change and fostering sustainable growth. In an initiative released at the BRICS Business Forum 2022 on Wednesday night, the BRICS business community also pledged to expand cooperation in green energy and the digital economy.
In a clear sign of BRICS’ expanding ties with other emerging market economies and developing nations, an innovative “BRICS Plus” mechanism of expanded cooperation is also gaining popularity, which, experts say, provides a powerful answer to address the issue of an unfair and uneven global development model dominated by a single country or bloc.

In 2022 the GDP Purchasing Power Parity (PPP ) of the 5 existing members of BRICS was greater than that of the G7 bloc. Iran and Argentina seek to join the major economic bloc of Brazil-Russia-India-China-South Africa, known as BRICS. Sources: CGTN and RT What is Purchasing Power Parity? "Purchasing power parity (PPP) is a form of exchange rate that takes into account the cost of a common basket of goods and services in the two countries compared. Thus, the PPP between any two currencies is the measure of the actual purchasing power of those currencies at a given point in time for buying a given basket of goods and services. As the World Bank explained in its 2002 report The International Comparison Programme and Purchasing Power Parities, the PPP for, say, the Indonesian rupiah against the U.S. dollar is defined as the number of rupiahs needed to buy, in Indonesia, the same amount of goods and services as $1 (U.S.) would buy in the United States." Three Chinese electric vehicle battery and material companies are tapping investors for more than $10bn in new funding as the country cements its dominance over global clean tech supply chains. The combined fundraising by the three Chinese groups — CATL, Tianqi Lithium and Huayou Cobalt — eclipsed the hundreds of millions of dollars being spent by Washington and US allies including Australia and South Korea to chip away at China’s supremacy in the sector. Foreign investors were keen to participate. JPMorgan, Barclays, Morgan Stanley, Macquarie and HSBC all grabbed a slice of the share sale, accounting for about 32 per cent of the total offered shares. Factories in China account for nearly three-quarters of global EV battery production and command 90 per cent of the market share for processing rare earth elements — the oxides, metals and magnets used in batteries — a level of dominance akin to its stronghold over the solar industry.
