China and the Global Green Revolution

Green socialism is what China is materially doing. Subordinating capital to social and ecological objectives, planning at scale, cooperating across borders to electrify the Global South.

In this video presentation on the theme of China and the Global Green Revolution, Carlos Martinez of Friends of Socialist China focuses on the global picture – what China’s green revolution means for the rest of the world, and especially for the Global South.

Chinese innovation, investment and economies of scale have driven the global cost of solar power down by over 80 percent. China now produces around 80 percent of the world’s solar panels, 60 percent of EVs and 60 percent of wind turbines.

From Chad to Cuba, this is enabling developing countries to leapfrog fossil fuels and access modern energy on terms they can actually afford. The Belt and Road has decisively pivoted green, and Chinese solar is currently keeping the lights on in Cuba in the teeth of the latest US blockade.

Meanwhile the Washington regime sanctions clean tech, withdraws from international climate agreements, ramps up fracking, and props up the fossil-fuel order. The choice now facing humanity is increasingly stark: green socialism, or climate breakdown-fuelled barbarism.
