CHINA SYSTEMATICALLY INVESTS IN ENGINEERING & ENVIRONMENTAL TRAINING & RESEARCH
Since 2009 China has had 10 times more engineers than the United States. This has been going on for the last 17 years. The US also spread the fantasies that China is out-pacing the US because of its low labour costs, forced labour, IP theft, government subsidies and over production. These are “claims” are rolled out as excuses for why the US is falling behind China in almost every key sector.
The plain truth is the US has only 1/10 of the number of engineers with which to compete with China. China invests systematically in science and engineering research and education. The US is massively cutting back on science and particularly the environmental sciences and science-based environmental regulation, driving infrastructure and scientific development backwards. A declining US is just unable to compete with China.
One manifestation of China’s growing strength in this area is that by the end of 2024, the number of practitioners in the ecological and environmental protection sector in China had exceeded 3.4 million. Research by Deloitte China suggests that China could create 38 million jobs by 2050, many of them in low-carbon industries that combine traditional industrial strengths, including engineering, with new technologies.
China has officially recognized 134 green professions in its national occupational classification system, covering areas such as renewable power, energy efficiency, environmental monitoring, ecological restoration and carbon management.
