Reuters reports that China’s coal generation is set to fall in 2025. Soaring renewable expansion makes it clear that non-fossil energy will be the main source for China’s future electricity system, with fossil-fuel sources guaranteeing energy security.
The China Electricity Council forecasts that electricity demand would grow by 6% in 2025, down from 6.8% in 2024, China energy news reported.
The Europe-based Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), said that clean energy deploment in China would accelerate in 2025 as largescale wind, solar and nuclear projects come online before the 14th five-year plan.
In a newly published interview with Carbon Brief, Professor Wang Can, director of the Department of Environmental Planning and Management at China’s Tsinghua University, said that China’s emissions “were close to the peak”.
