Jiangsu has launched its first wetland ecological protection compensation mechanism, becoming one of the first provinces in China to implement such a system.
The initiative, covering 567,000 acres, has allocated 74.62 million yuan for ecological restoration, including the protection of vital wetland habitats and biodiversity.
The funds will support various projects, such as the restoration of degraded wetlands, the construction of protective infrastructure, and the promotion of ecological education.
The move aligns with the revised Wetland Protection Regulations and aims to enhance the province’s wetland conservation, ensuring the sustainability of wetland ecosystems and their essential ecological functions.
