HOTEL CALIFORNIA: TIME TO CHECK OUT?

“The declining United States imperial system has all the hallmarks of a protection racket”

While this linked article does not directly address environmental matters, it go to the very heart of the context behind the US policy of confrontation with China – a key part of which is the US trade war on China’s world dominance in green technology and it’s emerging international leadership on climate change.

The Eagles classic “Hotel California” could be considered an allegory for membership in the imperial system of the United States.

At least to this point, that appears to be the mindset prevalent in Australia’s political, defence and security class, regardless of the harm that membership causes. It is time to check out.

The linked article by Cameron Leckie, a former long-serving officer in the Australian Army, looks at the cost of being a peripheral power in the United States imperial system as it declines. A system which Leckie aptly describes as having all the hallmarks of being a protection racket.
